WADAC have qualified to take part in the 2021 EA 5-mile Road Relay Nationals - congratulations those who took part and performed so well in the qualifier event!
Runners from qualifying clubs now need to sign-up for the National Round via OpenTrack – click here to enter – which will take place Wed 10 Feb – Mon 15 Feb. Clubs can once again have an unlimited number of their first-claim members enter this round with the fastest eight scoring (four men / four women). Do it NOW whilst you remember!
The Nationals will again be a virtual event over 5-miles on road surfaces. Importantly this is a scratch race event without dist or elevation corrections - please see the rules on the EA website. In essence you should seek out a suitably fast and flat course in your own local area and arrange to start/finish at the same point by finding a suitable loop or out and back course. Race that course on your own or with one other socially distanced friend and submit your times into the Opentrack website and into the WADAC DDD facility. Race times can be submitted anytime from 10/02 through 15/02 so please try and avoid those times when your chosen route might be crowded with other path/road users.
In WADAC we are going to use this event to count towards a number of virtual races.....everyone's performance will count towards one or more of: - the EA relays (our fastest 4 men and fastest 4 women) - a 3-club match race challenge against HuntsAC and a "whole Island of Malta" select team (20 best age performance scores to count) - an in-house relay (everyone to count towards one of 5 WADAC teams) - the WADAC Virtual GP#2 (everyone counts both scratch time and age perf)
To help with planning for all this and allocation of teams for the in-house relay please register your entry via this event facility and provide an estimate of your likely 5mile race time. Remember your course will be over generally level ground with good footing so please no false modesty - we will try and balance the teams and it is always much more fun if the teams are as even as possible. With that in mind late entries are a pain so just register NOW.
Submit your result into the DDD in the usual manner but remember this is a scratch race event so the fudge factors will not be used (even for the in-house stuff). Ideally choose a loop or out and back course so there is no net change in elevation and stop your watch at (or just over) 5 miles so results can be as comparable as possible.
Please note this event is primarily intended for senior athletes but the minimum age for entry is 15 years. If you are the parent of a u17 athlete who is keen to be involved please speak with your coach first and then get in touch with me before registering.
Any questions please just ask.
