A special KGV training session offering some real race pace spice on a Tuesday evening and a bit of festive fun....silly hats and tinsel etc are required.
The WADAC Xmas relays will this year be on an approx 1km loop around the KGV fields rather than on the track.
Teams will comprise 3 athletes - pre-selected and mixed so as to try and have balanced teams across the event - and each athlete shall complete 3 laps. Teams are free to determine their own running order and indeed can also vary their tactics and run different lap sequences for best effect....is now the time to slip in a 2k double lap from our speedster? Are we better/faster doing 3*3k spells rather than 9*1k bursts?
To facilitate team selections please register for this event using this registration facility and do provide an estimate of your likely 5k race time on a level road course. This XC course is over generally level ground with good footing so your road times over 5k are a suitable proxy for this event.
We will try and balance the teams and it is always much more fun if the teams are as even as possible so please no false modesty.
The first legs will be starting at 19.00, please be there early enough to meet up with your team mates sort out your tactics and do your own warm-up in time for your leg start.
The event will be a simple box to box relay with social distancing and no batons.
KGV is not the hilliest of courses but it will be real racing, XC in nature and spikes friendly. Much of the course will be in darkness following a trail of lit cones so you may wish to bring a headtorch to help with sighting your footing. The start/finish area will be lit (with borrowed light from next door) and this lit area provides a spectator zone which the athletes will pass through every lap.
This is a real first across the line team relay race but each athlete is also asked to record their own leg timing on their watch and submit that into the DDD so that individual times and bragging rights are properly maintained. Scoring will count towards the Virtual GP#2.
Any questions please just ask Nick or Kate Green
